This is easy, quick, and far cheaper than buying fabric softener in a store. You probably already have the ingredients at home.
Simply mix 2 cups vinegar with 1 tsp. scented oil in a recycled plastic bottle. Shake. Use as you normally use fabric softener.
It works because vinegar cuts the soap. The scented oil provides the anti-static properties and the nice scent. (Which is why store-purchased fabric softeners can sometimes leave an oily stain. I have not had that issue with this recipe.) You can adjust the softness level by adding more scented oil, or less.
You can even customize each family member’s scent for their bedding and clothing. My youngest daughter loves a combination of lavender, vanilla, and sandalwood. It is similar to the baby powder scent.
