Feeding your hungry Clematis for beautiful blooms

Clematis vines are HUNGRY for vitamins and nutrients. Feed them a clematis smoothie for massive blooms.

Save banana peels, eggshells, and tomato discards. Put in a blender with water, purée, then pour around the root areas.

Clematis eat a lot and should be fed supplements like this from February through September.

You can also feed them coffee grounds in the same manner as you would a rose plant (See post on coffee & roses).

Clematis seems to love the same nutrients that roses love. You CAN co-plant them, and the clematis will climb the rose bush, but you’ll need to feed heavily so the clematis doesn’t starve the roses of nutrients.

  1. My partial shade clematis kept flowering every year with abundent flowers. I never fed it other than when I fertilized my adjoining lawn. Last spring I had landscapers build me a walkway and the clematis was covered with beach stone. I tried to dig it out but was unable to because of my age. But suddenly in the later Spring it burst out of the rock walkway and bloomed like it had in the past. I will begin to follow your fertilizing advice for this ferocious little survivor!

  2. Enjoy every word you publish An abundance of great information Clematis and rode smoothie work well for amount and size of blooms Thanks
